Arafo

 

Villa de Arafo is a town located in the Southeast of the island of Tenerife, in a valley that takes the name of the bordering municipality, the Valley of Güímar, with which he limits by the South, in addition makes by the north with the municipal term to Candelaria and by the west with Santa Ursula and the Orotava.

 

 

The population of Arafo is concentrated in a ninety percent in urban center, Barrio del Carmen and Barrio del Fielato.The coast of Arafo is formed by a low and rocky beach, it is worth mention the Beach of Lima.

Arafo has a great musical and cultural tradition, their musical local band is very well known.

This musical tradition begins in the middle of XIX Century, with the creation of the first band, the Music Band Numancia, later on their changed the name of the band to Sociedad Filarmónica La Nivaria, at the moment exists in the town the Band “La Candelaria ”.

But the musical activity in the town is not only limited to the bands, also there are several chorales and musical groupings of prestige, among them we emphasized: the Chorale “Maria Auxiliadora”, the folkloric grouping “Ayesa”, “Aires de Arafo”, the lírica grouping “Ayesa”, etc.
